Founded in 1897 by the initiative of Frederico Eusebio, the Museum was primly destined to the fields of Historical Sciences and Archaeology. In 1976, the museum was moved to its present emplacement, had the opportunity to enlarged its competence and was enriched by the addition of a department dedicated to Territorial Natural Sciences. With the new location, the collections of the original museum were widened by specimens coming from excavations done in the past 25 years. This allowed to develop our knowledge about the local prehistory and our understanding of the roman city. Today, the museum has the objectives of giving us a comprehensive view on the natural and historical evolution of the local environment.

Opening times:
Monday to Friday: from 3.00pm to 6.00pm
Saturday, Sunday and National holidays: from 9.30am to 12.30pm and from 3.00pm to 6.00pm

From June to September, afternoon opening times are from
4.00pm to 7.00pm
The museum is also opened mornings of weekdays to school groups on a booking basis
